What do you think of scholarships and grants based on race?

Can you answer ?They call me mom?’s question about Grants?:
I’m applying for college this fall and I’ve been applying for a bunch of scholarships and grants. Quite a few of the ones I’m finding are based on race, sexual orientation, etc. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think it’s highly unfair. One in particular was a grant for a First Generation college student with financial need. It was perfect except for one minor thing; you had to be hispanic to be eligible. I personlly think scholarships should be based on merit and grants should be based on financial need. I don’t think certian ones should be available for black students only. I also don’t think you should recieve one just for being gay. Does anyone else agree with me?
I don’t know about being a minority? I’m the only white chick in my neighborhood…lol. I was one of the few white chicks that graduated from a predominately black school. I don’t know what you mean by “what you went through.” The ony difference there is is skin color.

Grants Feedback: its called reverse discrimination…i teach that point …
Grants Feedback: Welcome to our strange world of so-called “equality”.
.
Grants Feedback: Absolutely. I’m white and grew up in a poor section of Los Angeles and saw “reverse racism” all around me. Its a disgrace, but I do not think it will ever change. Just press on and don’t get bitter, it will only harm you. Predjudice against whites is the only government approved hatred.
Grants Feedback: AMEN, it is so hard to get any help in the US now unless your black or Hispanic. Name 2 grants offered for whites only? If there are any they are automatically considered racist.
Grants Feedback: its cool girl, coz u know u might have not seen the hardship faced by minority coz of minority. you might not understand me but i like it.
Grants Feedback: If you checked out the dude’s spelling above me, apparently, the government thinks that he needs the education more than we do. lol
Seriously, though. Reverse racism is everywhere. It’s not just in the schools, but it’s in all aspects of the nation. I went to court the other day, and 90% of that court room was hispanic. They were being given six months to pay off their fines (if the fines didn’t get dismissed), and when I asked for time to pay, she gave me thirty days.
Trust me. It’s all over the place. I think that the only reason that I haven’t tried to go over to the UK yet is because we have epidurals here. haha
Grants Feedback: Well I am black and I had quite a few scholarships none were race related. I got one for playing the piano, charity work, writing poetry and even recieved money from my church. There are scholarships out there for red heads, albinos you name it there is a scholarship out there for it. Even if you write with your left hand there is one for you. But you know what, if you go to a majority black school you will be considered a minority there and you could probably go for free, a friend of mines, who is white doesnt pay a thing to go to Hampton University and it wouldve cost me a arm and a leg to go there. Go to your local library and ask for a book of scholarships, you will be amazed. Some of the people who answered your question should check out my group page:
Grants Feedback: These are all private scholarships. Somebody has obviously done well enough that they want to help the group they came from, and they made a scholarship for that group. It’s completely ok, mostly because someone is giving away money because they believe in helping the next generation. If I ever have enough money, I’ll probably give it to people similar to me.
